Bread and Infused Oil Dipping Platter for the Holidays

November 30, 2020

Life can get so busy and before you know it, we’re heading towards the end of the year. One thing we’ve learned this year is that now more than ever, we should value the time spent with the ones we hold dear. This recipe for Bread with flavourful infused oils is my go-to over the holidays when I want to focus on the things that matter most – making the most of time with family and spending less time fussing in the kitchen.

This recipe is great to make ahead – the oils last well stored properly in airtight containers. All you need to do is pour those flavour packed oils into some nice serving bowls and slice up a fresh country-style loaf of bread from the bakery section and you’ll be enjoying each other’s company and not stressing about having nothing to serve!

I’ve provided 3 incredibly easy oil-based dips including, Italian Herbs and Garlic, Fresh Basil, Thyme and Lemon Zest, and Za’atar Spice Blend Oil. Don’t let those three combinations stop you! There are many delicious combinations to try and here are some tips to how to go about choosing your ingredients.

This may seem like a very simple platter to put together, but you’ll want to use good, quality ingredients! A fresh crusty loaf of country bread and a good quality olive oil can go a long way in a simple dish like this.

I really enjoy using the Western Family Signature Olive Oils for that reason. Inspired by different regions known for their quality olives oils, I used the Mediterranean inspired Extra Virgin Olive Oil for this platter, rich in flavour and quality.

Fresh herbs, flaked sea salt, and fresh cracked ground pepper, fresh lemon zest all count too!

Bread and Infused Oil Dipping Platter

Za’atar Spiced Oil

1/2 Cup of good quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil

2 Tbs of za’atar spice mix

1 Tsp of Lemon juice

½ tsp of Flaked Sea Salt

¼ tsp of Fresh Cracked Black Pepper

Italian Herbs & Garlic

½ Cup of Good quality Italian inspired olive oil

1 Tbsp of Parsley Finely diced

½ Tbsp of Thyme finely diced

½ tbsp of oregano finely diced

1 tsp of finely diced fresh basil

½ tsp of flaked Sea salt

¼ tsp of fresh cracked black pepper

1-2 Tbsp of Roasted Garlic

Fresh Basil, Thyme & Lemon Zest

1/2 Cup of good quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil

2 Tbsp of finely diced basil

1 Tsp of finely diced fresh thyme

1 Tsp of Fresh Lemon zest

½ tsp of flaked sea salt

¼ tsp of fresh cracked black pepper

Mix all of the ingredients together in their separate bowls, or place ingredients in jars, or containers with lids to mix and use and store as needed. Store in the fridge for up to a month in an airtight container or jars. Allow sitting at room temperature for roughly 15-20 minutes before serving once stored in the fridge.
